Below are some high-chassis vehicle models that have been upgraded and launched with new versions by manufacturers to better meet the needs of the Vietnamese market in the coming time.
Toyota Hilux 2024 slightly upgraded, added 2-wheel drive version
Recently, Toyota Vietnam (TMV) confirmed that the Hilux pickup truck in the Vietnamese market will be slightly upgraded in appearance and equipment, expected to start selling from the second quarter of next year, including the addition of 4x4 versions.
Specifically, Toyota Hilux 2024 is expected to have 3 versions with 2 engine options, including Hilux 4x4 AT Adventure using a 2.8L engine, two versions of automatic transmission 4x2 AT and manual transmission 4x4 MT using the same 2.4L engine block.
Previously, in 2023, this pickup model was only imported to Vietnam with a single 4x2 AT 1-wheel automatic version using a 2.4L engine with a listed price of 852 million VND.
The Japanese automaker also revealed that the price range of the 2024 Hilux will be from 668 million VND, nearly 200 million VND cheaper than the current price. However, this could be the price of the 4x4 MT manual transmission version with basic equipment.
The automatic version of Hilux 2024 4x2 AT is expected to have a price that does not change much, fluctuating around 850 million VND. The highest-end version Hilux Adventure 2.8 4x4 AT is expected to have a selling price of about 1 billion VND, competing directly with Ford Ranger Wildtrak.
According to the automotive data site Focus2move, Toyota Hilux is the best-selling car model in the Southeast Asian market in 2023, but in Vietnam, Hilux has not left any mark.
In 2023, Hilux ranked last in the pickup truck segment with sales of only 134 vehicles, while Ford Ranger sold 16,085 vehicles and Mitsubishi Triton sold 2,572 vehicles. The reason was due to limited supply and poor product structure with only one single-wheel drive version option.
Ford Ranger adds Stormtrak version
The American car company's representative also confirmed the upcoming launch of a new version of the Ford Ranger pickup truck, the Stormtrak, in the Vietnamese market, but has not announced a specific time. According to some dealers, the Ranger Stormtrak will officially appear this March and will most likely replace the Ranger Wildtrak in the near future.
Ford Ranger Stormtrak is developed on the current Wildtrak version with the basic design still kept the same, except for some details that are modified in a more sporty and personal direction such as 20-inch rims with red accents on one spoke, roof rack, cargo bed sliders, black leather seats with red accents (on the Wildtrak version, orange accents),...
The car still uses a 2.0 bi-turbo engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission like the Wildtrak version, with a capacity of 207 horsepower and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. In the Thai market, the Ranger Stormtrak has 2 options of 1 or 2-wheel drive. The selling price of the Ranger Stormtrak is expected to be around 1 billion VND, slightly higher than the Wildtrak version (979 million).
Ford Everest adds Platinum version
Another version with the name "Wildtrak" is also facing the possibility of being replaced, that is the Ford Everest Wildtrak. According to some sources, Ford Vietnam plans to introduce a new SUV model Everest Platinum in the next few months, replacing the current Everest Wildtrak version.
The highlight of this new version is the 3.0L V6 turbocharged diesel engine, producing 250 horsepower and 600Nm of torque. The car is also equipped with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system. Like the Wildtrak version, the Everest Platinum is also expected to be imported from Thailand.
In Vietnam, the Ford Everest currently has only two engine options: a 2.0L single turbocharger and a 2.0L twin turbocharger, of which the 2.0L twin turbocharger has a higher capacity, 210 horsepower and 500Nm of torque. Equipped with a 3.0L V6 engine, the price of the Platinum version is expected to be around 1.7 billion VND, about 200 million VND higher than the current Wildtrak version.
In 2023, Ford Everest was the most prominent name in the D-size SUV segment with sales reaching 9,960 units, far surpassing other names such as Hyundai SantaFe (6,418 units), Mazda CX-8 (3,024 units), Toyota Fortuner (3,492 units), KIA Sorento (1,459 units) or Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (1,033 units).
Volkswagen adds Teramont X imported from China
Volkswagen Teramont X is announced to be launched in the Vietnamese market to replace the current Teramont model. The official selling price has not been announced, however many dealers have offered and received deposits at 2.168 billion VND, higher than the Teramont (base) which is currently being sold at 2.099 billion VND.
The Volkswagen Teramont X, which is about to be introduced, will have a different appearance with a youthful design style and not much related to the previous Teramont model currently sold in Vietnam. Notably, this model will shift its import source from the US to China, sharing the same origin as the MPV Viloran model sold in Vietnam at the end of last year.
In China, Volkswagen Teramont has two configurations: 5 seats and 7 seats. In which, Volkswagen Teramont X is a 5-seat model, with two engine options including a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine for a maximum capacity of 220 horsepower and 350Nm of torque and a 2.5L turbocharged V6 engine, for a maximum capacity of 290 horsepower and 500Nm of torque. Both engines are combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive. However, most likely, only the 2.0L gasoline engine version will be brought to Vietnam.
Volkswagen Teramont was introduced in Vietnam in 2021, is a high-end 7-seat large SUV competing with rivals such as Ford Explorer, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado or Hyundai Palisade. However, the high price and unattractive appearance have made Volkswagen Teramont's sales not very positive.
In addition to the above models, many other names are also being renewed and planned to come to Vietnam around the middle of this year, such as: Toyota Land Prado 2024, Hyundai Santa Fe 2024 or Toyota Corolla Cross 2024 (facelift),...
