Authorities in southwestern China's Sichuan province have raised the emergency response to the landslide to level 1 - the highest level.
Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping has directed functional units to mobilize all forces for rescue efforts in the affected areas.
Accordingly, emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene to quickly deploy rescue and relief work, making every effort to search for survivors.
According to the provincial Department of Geological Disaster Prevention and Control, the landslide occurred at around 11:50 a.m. on February 8 local time (around 10:50 a.m. Vietnam time) in Jinping Village, Junlian County, Yijin City. The disaster buried 10 houses and left over 30 people missing.
China Central Television (CCTV) quoted President Xi Jinping as asking rescue forces to carry out their duties and take necessary measures to minimize casualties and properly handle the aftermath.
By the afternoon of February 8, China's Ministry of Emergency Management said two people had been rescued.
