The 2024 Paris Olympics officially began with a unique and unprecedented opening ceremony, held on the Seine River and at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics will take place at 0:30 on July 27, Vietnam time, and is expected to last about 4 hours.
There are 160 boats, of which 94 carry 10,500 athletes, parading along the Seine River, a distance of about 6km. Spectators are arranged to sit on both sides of the river.
The organizers issued 326,000 tickets for the opening ceremony, for seats on both banks of the Seine, of which 104,000 were paid tickets. In addition, 80 large screens appeared around Paris for fans to watch.

The boat carried four delegations from Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan and Kenya, followed by the Malaysian delegation.

The teams continued to march. The weather was not cooperating as rain continued to fall at the opening ceremony site. Fans had to use umbrellas and wear raincoats to watch and cheer for the teams. The teams themselves had to wear raincoats under the cheers of spectators on both banks of the Seine.

Before the opening ceremony, rain poured down on the venue, forcing many spectators sitting on both banks of the Seine to don raincoats. Fortunately, the rain stopped in time and the ceremony went ahead as planned, at 00:30.
Some 50,000 police will guard every metre of the route along the Seine River where the opening ceremony parades will take place, reinforced by some 18,000 soldiers and private security forces.
Although the content of the Opening Ceremony was kept secret to ensure a last-minute surprise, general director Thomas Jolly revealed that this will be an unforgettable experience because of its uniqueness.
“The Opening Ceremony is usually made up of three distinct parts: the art show, the parade and the Olympic ceremonies. We’re combining them all, creating a non-linear route through 360-degree murals and telling stories in a different way,” says Thomas Jolly..
Mr. Tony Estanguet - Head of the Paris Olympic Organizing Committee and also an Olympic champion said:“The entire city of Paris will be a giant stadium. The Seine will become the piste, and the quays will be the grandstands so that spectators from all over can witness a truly impressive opening party. Because with the natural light of the French sunset, the global audience will witness the natural splendor of the City of Light Paris.”
As expected, in addition to 3,500 performers, the Opening Ceremony will also feature famous artists such as Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, French-Malaysian R&B singer Aya Nakamura and Celine Dion, who is said to have received a salary of up to $2 million.
The opening ceremony is estimated to cost around 200 million euros, not to mention 1.4 billion euros to clean up the Seine and 320 million for security, from installing 100 smart cameras around the city to the cost of 45,000 police and gendarmes serving the ceremony.
Organizers had expected 600,000 spectators to watch the ceremony along the banks of the Seine. After considering security factors, the number was reduced to 326,000, including 220,000 invited guests, including about 120 heads of state, kings and high-ranking officials from the 206 Olympic countries. Those who could not watch live could watch on 80 giant screens installed across Paris, as did the 1.5 billion others watching on television.
The mascot for the 2024 Olympics is the Phrygian cap. It has been a symbol of freedom throughout French history and represents allegorical figures of the French republic. The mascot's motto is: "Alone we go faster, but together we go further."
