In response to the information spreading about many venomous snake nests in Phu Quy island district (Binh Thuan), on the morning of April 11, Mr. Ngo Tan Luc, Vice Chairman of Phu Quy island district People's Committee, said that this information was not accurate.

According to Mr. Ngo Tan Luc, Phu Quy island district (in Binh Thuan province) can be considered an archipelago, in addition to Phu Quy island (big island), there are 9 small islands surrounding it.

Specifically, the odd islands located to the North and Northwest include 4 islands: Hon Trung, Hon Den, Hon Giua and Hon Do.

The odd islands located to the South and Southeast include 5 islands: Hon Tranh, Hon Hai (Hon Kham), Hon Do Lon (Hon Bo), Hon Ty (Hon Vung), Hon Do Nho (Hon Trao).

The information posted on social media about the appearance of the world's most venomous snake species on Hon Den is incorrect. This snake species has existed on Hon Den for a long time, not just recently. Local people often call it a sea snake or water snake.

According to many people on Phu Quy island, during the day this snake species often crawls into its cave and coils up, only coming out at night to look for food, their food is fish.

When people are fishing, sometimes this snake gets caught in the net. Mr. Ngo Tan Luc shared that the toxicity level is unknown because up to now, no one on the island has been bitten by this snake. He himself once went to Hon Den to catch snails and still saw this type of snake.

Previously, on April 10, social media was abuzz with images and warnings about a nest of venomous snakes on Hon Den Island, Phu Quy. Specifically, the post with images and video clips shared: "Everyone traveling to Phu Quy Island should consider limiting their travel to Hon Den Island, this snake nest was found on the island, one of the most venomous snake species, not just one nest but many nests, this nest has about 15-17 snakes."

This false information has affected the image of the island district as a tourist destination, especially when Phu Quy is entering the calm sea season, the peak tourist season.

When information about the “nest of poisonous snakes” appeared, many people expressed concerns about the safety of traveling to Phu Quy Island. Currently, the authorities are considering the impact of this false information to take action.

56 nautical miles southeast of the mainland, Phu Quy island district is known for its great potential for marine economy, especially in the tourism sector. Nature has bestowed Phu Quy with a poetic, pristine natural landscape with beautiful beaches.

In recent years, Phu Quy tourism has developed strongly, especially since electricity was provided 24/7, opening a new era for Phu Quy.

In 2023, there were more than 165,000 visitors to Phu Quy Island; in the first 3 months of 2024, the island welcomed nearly 24,000 visitors, an increase of 14,000 over the same period in 2023.

Currently the weather is favorable, Phu Quy is entering the peak season to serve tourists.
