Visit Uncle Ho's hometown

Visiting Uncle Ho's hometown, May
When the lotus flowers have a strong fragrance on the country road
The wind shakes the bamboo
Sounds like the sound of hammocks on summer afternoons...

What a beautiful summer morning!
Green on Uncle Ho's house, high sky, pink clouds
Quietly looking at the clear green Coc well
How many cool streams flow from here?
Tree-lined entrance
The banks of hibiscus trees stand solemnly day by day
Green grapefruit laden with fruit in front of the porch
Sunlight slant small umbrella parallel curtain
Stop in front of each room
Hear my heart beating, Uncle!
I remember now
The same house in my hometown
Simple bamboo walls, thatched roof
But why is it so meaningful and full of love for the homeland?

Leaving… my heart is filled with lingering feelings
Summer sunshine spreads across familiar roads
Golden Lotus, Uncle Ho's Hometown - Kim Lien
The fragrance spread throughout the distant countryside.

Nguyen Duy Xuan is the author of a number of poetry collections on the subject of homeland and country that have been quite successful in recent years, such as:The Fatherland is the road that father and son are walking, The Fatherland I love, The sunshine of the highlands... The image of President Ho also appears quite a lot in his poems, includingVisit Uncle Ho's hometown(Extracted from the collection)Highland sunshine).Visit Uncle Ho's hometownis a quite refined six-eight poem, rich in imagery and emotion, deeply expressing the poet's heart for the simple and noble life of Uncle Ho. That feeling is also the sentiment of the Vietnamese people towards beloved Uncle Ho, who devoted his whole life to the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

Since the summer of 1980, in the month of Uncle Ho's birthday, this was also the occasion for the poet to return to visit Kim Lien village, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province and offer incense to President Ho's altar. Feeling moved and moved beyond description, the author calmed his soul to feel all the familiar sounds and images with an infinite love. Uncle Ho's hometown is no different from the familiar Vietnamese villages of a thousand years. The lotus flowers still have a pure, strong fragrance, the green bamboo rows along the road still creak like the sound of a hammock. Simply through expressive language and familiar poetic images, Nguyen Duy Xuan moves our souls with the opening six-eight melody full of love for the countryside:"Visiting Uncle Ho's hometown, in May/When the lotus flowers have a strong fragrance on the country road/The wind blows and shakes the bamboo rows/It sounds like the sound of hammocks on summer afternoons years ago...".

With the same descriptive emotional flow, the poet continues to evoke in the reader the beauty of nature, the daily life in the countryside and from Uncle Ho's house. The sky of May with bright summer sunshine is like a belief in love, a gift that nature has bestowed on the world. The entrance to Uncle Ho's house is shaded by rows of trees, the banks of the hibiscus are solemn and bright red.

Especially the image of Coc well with its cool, clear water source, from here flows many cool streams. That is also a metaphor for the noble life of Uncle Ho, who nurtured many generations of Vietnamese revolutionaries to follow in his footsteps, fighting for independence and freedom for the Fatherland: "How beautiful the summer morning is/ Green above Uncle Ho's house, high sky, pink clouds/ Quietly looking at the clear green Coc well/ How many cool streams flow from here?/ The entrance is shaded by rows of trees/ Both banks are shaded by hibiscus, standing solemnly day after day".

If the first two stanzas purely describe the natural picture of Uncle Ho's hometown, the last two stanzas are the poet's feelings and emotions expressed during the visit. Slowly walking through each room of Uncle Ho's house, each step is a contemplation of his noble life. Through the words "bustling", "wistful", "remembering", author Nguyen Duy Xuan has helped readers imagine Uncle Ho's simple, unpretentious life.

However, the beauty of the third stanza is the ability to generalize the beauty of the homeland and the house where Uncle Ho lives as if it were the common homeland, every common house on the beloved land of Vietnam. Therefore, each simple, familiar room suddenly becomes so meaningful, affectionate and dear:"Stopping in front of each room/ I hear my heart beating fast, Uncle!/ I feel so moved… I remember/ That same house in my hometown/ Simple bamboo walls, thatched roof/ But so meaningful, so warm with hometown love…".

The poem ends with a stanza of four simple, natural, yet deep and passionate lines of six-eight meter from the heart's longing for Uncle Ho. Saying goodbye to his homeland and that simple house "full of meaning and warm homeland love", the author feels the fragrant lotus scent of the years forever lingering in his soul, spreading throughout the country. Kim Lien - the homeland of the Golden Lotus has become the center of nobility, the crystallization of the bright beauty in every soul of the Vietnamese people:"Going home... my heart is filled with longing/ The summer sun spreads across the familiar road/ The Golden Lotus of Uncle Ho's hometown - Kim Lien/ Its fragrance spreads throughout the distant countryside".

Still bearing the strong imprint of author Nguyen Duy Xuan's poetic style, especially the simplicity of words and expressions,Visit Uncle Ho's hometownis the lingering feeling when returning to the beloved Sen village homeland. The poem expresses the poet's love and admiration on the occasion of Uncle Ho's birthday. More deeply, the poem also represents the common sentiment of all Vietnamese people who always turn to Him with undying faith and love.
