On May 24, the Investigation Police Agency, Uong Bi City Police (Quang Ninh) issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Nguyen Huy Hoang (born in 1998, residing in Group 2, Zone 2, Vang Danh Ward, Uong Bi City) for violating regulations on the protection of rare, endangered and precious wild animals.
Previously, through the investigation, Uong Bi City Police discovered that Nguyen Huy Hoang had many activities of posting articles about trading animal products such as tiger skin, tiger fangs, tiger claws, bear claws... on Facebook, showing signs of criminal activities of buying and selling endangered and rare animal products.
Determining the seriousness of the incident, the Economic Police Team - Uong Bi City Police established a special project to fight.
At 10:45 a.m. on April 10, at Group 3, Tan Lap 1 area, Phuong Dong ward, Uong Bi city, Nguyen Huy Hoang drove a Honda CB motorbike with license plate 60Z2-0846, carrying a sealed package. The Economic Police Team coordinated with Phuong Dong ward police to inspect this subject.
During the inspection, the authorities discovered inside the package a skin suspected to be from a tiger and two claws suspected to be from a bear. At the time of the inspection, Hoang could not present documents proving the legal origin of the animal products.
According to the police, the results of the examination determined that the seized items were one animal skin product of a tiger (Panthera tigris) and two claws of a sun bear (Helarctos malayanus). These two species are listed in Appendix I, the List of endangered, precious, rare species prioritized for protection and in Appendix I, the List of wild animals and plants under the Appendix of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
