Yucca De Lac

This restaurant is located near the train station to the top of Victoria Peak, a place where you can see the whole view of Hong Kong from above. Yucca De Lac was a familiar name to Hong Kong people in the late 20th century. In 1963, the restaurant first opened on Tai Po Road, Ma Liu Shui area. This place was often used as a setting for Hong Kong black and white films in the 1960s and 1970s. The restaurant became famous during that time and opened branches in Taiwan, Malaysia, and the US. In 2005, the original branch in Hong Kong closed. In 2022, the name Yucca De Lac returned to Hong Kong, changed the address, the new restaurant has a view overlooking the famous Victoria Harbor. The dishes still focus on Cantonese flavors, with a modern Western-style decoration. The dish that made the name here is the crispy fried pigeon.

This family-run eatery specializes in snake dishes and Cantonese dim sum. Originally called Ser Wong Fun, it opened in 1895 in Guangdong and moved to Hong Kong in 1940.

The dishes here are prepared according to the criteria of health care, the accompanying ingredients are often herbs and medicinal herbs such as ginseng and wolfberry. Ms. Tram was impressed with the ginseng chicken dish, the chicken was stewed until tender, absorbing the flavor of Chinese medicine. The dish is not served hot but cold, but the chicken is sweet and fragrant, not fishy. The unique dishes here include snake soup and snake meat dimsum. Locals believe that dishes made from snake meat are good for health, preventing colds. "I am not too impressed with the flavor of snake meat. The white meat fibers, when chewed, are quite similar to chicken breast meat," said Ms. Trinh.

Ladies' Street Sik Faan

Address: Tung Choi Road, Mong Kok area

The restaurant is located in an old apartment building next to Lady Market, Mong Kok area. This is a famous shopping and dining area in Hong Kong, surrounded by apartment buildings. Ladies' Street Sik Faan has a "dai pai pong" design, simulating street food stalls in Hong Kong. "This restaurant reminds me of the Hong Kong scene in familiar movies of the 8X and 9X generations, with neon signs, round tables, and scenes of people sitting and drinking together," Trinh shared.

The restaurant serves a variety of seafood dishes such as lobster with cheese sauce, fried scallops, and sweet and sour cockles. There are also traditional Quang dishes such as sweet and sour pork. You should come here in a large group because the restaurant is arranged in a drinking style, "each portion is full".

Hung Wan Cafe

Address: Mong Kok Area

This is a shop serving cakes, tea, and coffee, which was once the setting for Stephen Chow's famous movie "The Lucky Guy". The shop still has the nostalgic features of Hong Kong in the 1990s with old stairs, brick walls, and simple plastic plates for the cakes. The shop has a distinctive aroma of baked egg cakes. This is also the dish that made the shop famous. The cake crust is in the form of a biscuit, the egg filling is rich and creamy. Customers can order hot milk tea to go with the cake. "The cakes here are fresh, hot, but quite sweet. What impressed me the most is that the waiters in the shop are all adults over 60 years old," Mai Trinh said.

"This is the most modern restaurant in my culinary exploration of Hong Kong," Trinh shared. The restaurant is located in a building on the bustling Wyndham Road in the central area of ​​Hong Kong Island, an area that also has many Western-style buildings. The restaurant has a modern space, but still has the atmosphere of Hong Kong streets in the 90s with neon lights decorating the walls and barrels used as tables. The dishes here are based on traditional Cantonese flavors but are creatively prepared. In addition to serving food, in the evening, this place is like a bar, selling craft beer and cocktails.
