Nam Sach District (Hai Duong) has coordinated with the Central Pest and Animal Control Company Limited to implement an effective model of rat catching with compensation.
Hop Tien is one of the first five communes to implement the district's direction on organizing rat catching with compensation, undertaken by the Central Pest and Insect Control Company from the 2023 crop season.
Right from the first crop, the damage caused by rats was controlled and significantly reduced. By the winter-spring crop of 2023-2024, the acceptance results showed that 99.8% of the rice area was protected, with a damage rate of only 0.2%. Thanks to that, rice productivity increased, and farmers were very excited. Previously, many crops in Hop Tien commune had over 15 hectares near the conversion area, mounds, and abandoned landfills, and people did not dare to plant because of rats. Now, this situation no longer exists.
In Nam Hong commune, if in previous seasons the fields were covered with white plastic and there was still a lot of damage from rats, this season is completely different. The damage from rats has been controlled, even in the fields near mounds and garbage dumps, there are no signs of rats. The fields are no longer covered with plastic like in previous seasons.
After the effective pilot in communes of Zone I, from the 2023 winter-spring crop, the district has directed communes and towns to coordinate with the Central Pest and Animal Control Company to propagate and collect people's opinions on organizing centralized rat catching with compensation. In the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop, the whole district has 15 communes signing contracts with the company. Of which, 12 communes have registered for centralized catching, with a collection rate of 60,000 - 70,000 VND/sao/crop, and a compensation rate of 1,000 VND/m2.
There are 3 units that self-implement under the technical guidance and use of drugs from the company. The effectiveness of the concentrated rat catching model with compensation contracts has brought quite obvious results. More than 99% of the protected area is not damaged by rats. Farmers can rest assured in production, without having to waste time and money on rat catching like before.
In the 2024 crop season, in the district, there are 16 communes, towns and Chi Doan village, Cong Hoa commune signed contracts with the Central Pest and Animal Control Company. Of which, 3 units were provided with medicine and transferred technology by the company: An Lam, Thanh Quang and Nam Sach town. The collection and compensation levels are the same as the previous crop. Minh Tan and Thai Tan communes still have contracts with the Rat Catching Team of Luong Tai district, Bac Ninh province.
Since the beginning of the season, communes and towns have coordinated to organize many concentrated rat-catching campaigns to control the harmful rat situation. The Central Pest and Animal Control Company has organized 4 concentrated campaigns and key campaigns to increase the effectiveness of the campaign.
The organization of the catch was highly effective, the situation of rats biting and destroying was controlled. In the communes and towns that signed contracts with enterprises, there was no longer a situation of farmers stretching plastic. However, in the two communes of Thai Tan and Minh Tan that signed contracts with the rat catching team of Luong Tai district (Bac Ninh) and the villages of Cong Hoa commune that did not have a rat catching contract, the situation of rats biting and destroying was still scattered, and people still stretched plastic. This confirmed that the Central Pest and Animal Control Company's implementation of rat catching was more effective.
The successful organization of rat catching with compensation to protect production is one of the effective solutions to overcome the difficulties for Nam Sach district's agriculture, which has been looking for a solution to the problem of killing "rats".
