More than 13 million Chinese students take college entrance exams

On June 7, 13.42 million candidates across China entered the 2024 national college entrance exam - the most important exam of every candidate's life.

Many localities across the country have launched "exam protection" and "silent mode" to create the best test-taking environment for candidates.

Accordingly, during the exam period, Beijing subway stations have implemented a “three priority” program, meaning that candidates and their parents taking the subway to the exam location will have “priority in buying tickets, priority in security checks, and priority in entering the station first.”

Some subway stations also have exam service desks to provide timely service to candidates and parents in need.

In Thai Nguyen City, Son Tay Province, during the university entrance exam, within 500m of the exam locations, local authorities required the cessation of all noisy construction activities, indoor repair activities, commercial advertising, cultural and entertainment loudspeakers, motor vehicle horns and other noisy activities, to ensure a quiet space for candidates while taking the exam.

Sichuan Provincial Public Security Traffic Police requested that during the exam period, the provincial public security traffic management agencies strictly implement the 24-hour on-duty system and always be prepared for emergencies.

For traffic accidents involving candidates, the police must be immediately dispatched to the scene and handled quickly, and at the same time, support contacting vehicles to transport candidates when necessary.

According to local media, before the university entrance exam, many localities as well as relevant agencies and departments always thoroughly grasp the task of preventing cheating in the exam and strictly handling violations of the law related to the exam.

For example, this year's Guangzhou College Entrance Examination has upgraded and improved the intelligent security gate to enhance the recognition and early warning of new situations such as mobile phones in protective bags, smart watches, smart bracelets, smart glasses, ceramic headphones, etc.

Or in Xiangyang, Hubei province, exam sites have added a small ladder at the security checkpoint to prevent candidates from hiding their phones under their shoes.

Right before the university entrance exam, local police agencies continuously discovered a number of cases related to cheating and fraud in exams.

Accordingly, local police agencies and education departments have reminded candidates to strictly comply with exam regulations and discipline and not to bring any electronic devices such as mobile phones into the exam room to avoid violating exam regulations and discipline.

It is known that the new point in this year's university entrance exam is that 6 provinces including Jilin, Heilongjiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Guizhou and Gansu and Guangxi Autonomous Region applied the new university entrance exam model "3+1+2" for the first time. In which, "3" includes 3 unified subjects: Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Language, using national exam questions decided by the Ministry of Education's Educational Testing Agency; "1" is choosing one of the two subjects: Physics and History; "2" is choosing two subjects out of 4 subjects: Political Thought, Geography, Chemistry and Biology. The elective subjects are decided by the provinces themselves.
