Vietnam is extremely concerned, resolutely protests and demands that China stop the illegal survey activities of the Haiyang 26 ship in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated that regarding the Chinese Navy's Haiyang 26 survey ship illegally surveying in Vietnam's waters, Vietnam has communicated many times with China about this incident.
Ms. Pham Thu Hang informed this at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of June 6 when answering a reporter's question about the Chinese Navy's Haiyang 26 survey ship illegally surveying in Vietnam's waters.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Vietnam is extremely concerned, resolutely protests and demands that China stop the illegal survey activities of the Haiyang 26 ship in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) and not repeat similar illegal activities; fully respect Vietnam's sovereignty and jurisdiction, respect international law and comply with UNCLOS 1982 and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and seriously implement the awareness of the two countries' senior leaders on better controlling and resolving disagreements at sea, maintaining the momentum of bilateral relations, and actively and responsibly contributing to peace and stability in the East Sea.
At the press conference, Ms. Pham Thu Hang also answered reporters' questions about the European Union's (EU) 2023 Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World, which reflects the human rights situation in Vietnam.
"Although the European Union's (EU) annual report on human rights and democracy in the world in 2023 reflects a number of achievements and progress of Vietnam in protecting human rights, it unfortunately continues to make some subjective comments based on incorrect information and does not accurately reflect the actual situation in Vietnam," Ms. Hang said.
"As has been affirmed many times, protecting and promoting human rights is a consistent policy of the Vietnamese State," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.
According to the spokesperson, Vietnam always considers people as the center and driving force of the innovation process and the country's socio-economic development. Vietnam always strives for the goal of improving people's lives and enjoyment rights.
Basic human rights and freedoms are recognized in the Constitution and laws and are guaranteed to be respected in practice.
Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in ensuring human rights have been widely recognized and highly appreciated by the international community. The comprehensive partnership and cooperation between Vietnam and the EU is developing very well.
Vietnam is ready to have open and frank exchanges and cooperate with the EU on human rights issues in a spirit of openness and respect to enhance mutual understanding through the annual dialogue mechanism and other bilateral exchange frameworks.
“We believe that increasing exchanges and dialogues through existing cooperation mechanisms will help the EU have sufficient objective information and better understand the actual situation of promoting and ensuring human rights in Vietnam; thereby also contributing to promoting relations between Vietnam and the EU,” said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.
