The Provincial Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. is maintaining 17 salinity control measurement points at many sluice gates on rivers to regulate water for safer production.

Currently, although the dry season has not yet entered, the saline intrusion in some downstream rivers in Tu Ky and Thanh Ha districts such as Luoc and Thai Binh rivers... has come about 1 month earlier than in 2023.

Since the beginning of November, the actual salinity measured at the above river mouths has exceeded the allowable salinity level on many days. On November 14, the salinity measured at some sluice gates in the downstream of Thai Binh River, Luoc River in Tu Ky District, Mia River, Rang River in Thanh Ha District fluctuated from 1‰ to 3‰.

Previously, there were some days when salinity measured in the downstream areas of the upper rivers was higher. The salinity of Thai Binh River water at Dau Market sluice gate (Quang Trung commune, Tu Ky) measured at 7:00 a.m. on November 2 was 2.5‰; the salinity of Luoc River water at Leu Vit sluice gate in Nguyen Giap commune (also Tu Ky district) at 7:00 a.m. on November 3 was 2‰.

In Thanh Ha district, at 7:00 a.m. on November 2, the salinity of Mia River water measured at Thuan A sluice was 5.3‰; the salinity of Rang River water at Huong River sluice was 1.8‰.

The increasing salinity of saltwater intrusion affects the quality of irrigation water for agricultural production and economic life in the downstream districts and towns, especially seriously in Cau Xe, An Tho (Tu Ky) and Ha Dong (Thanh Ha) areas.

The Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue requested the Bac Hung Hai Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. and the Provincial Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. to proactively monitor saline intrusion; operate the saline control irrigation works system; develop, update, and supplement plans and strategies for preventing and responding to saline intrusion... to protect production and minimize damage, especially to crops and aquatic products.

The People's Committees of Tu Ky, Thanh Ha, Kim Thanh districts and Kinh Mon town closely coordinate with enterprises exploiting irrigation works to regularly monitor the status of saltwater intrusion. Direct the organization of exploitation of irrigation works in the area to identify water intake sluices that are likely to be affected by saltwater intrusion to proactively operate and control saltwater intrusion.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development closely monitors, forecasts, warns, and promptly informs about the impact of saltwater intrusion. Provides guidance and direction for production in accordance with water resources (technical guidance, seasons, crop varieties, aquatic products, etc.) to prevent, respond appropriately, ensure safety, and adapt to saltwater intrusion in agricultural production.

The provincial Hydrometeorological Station monitors, measures and provides forecast bulletins and warnings on the level of natural disaster risks when saline intrusion occurs in the province, promptly reports to provincial leaders, the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, and People's Committees of districts and towns to be proactive in commanding, directing, responding to and overcoming the consequences caused by saline intrusion...
