Kidney broker couple at police station
On August 22, the Hoan Kiem District Police, Hanoi, announced that they had just dismantled a kidney trafficking ring, initiated a case, and temporarily detained two subjects, NVC (born in 1980, residing in Phu Tho province) and NTP (born in 1988, residing in Hai Phong), to investigate the act of buying, selling, and appropriating human tissues or body parts.
According to initial investigation, around the end of 2022, P. and C. connected and persuaded each other to act as intermediaries to broker kidney buying and selling.
After that, the two subjects found Mr. TVH (born in 1990, residing in Phu Tho province) who wanted to sell his kidney, so they contacted this person to broker the deal.
NTP guided Mr. H. to the hospital for examination and the results were good, meeting the conditions, so he agreed to buy a kidney for 420 million VND.
While waiting for a kidney transplant, NVC and NTP will provide food, accommodation and pay for TVH's health check-ups. When he is on the operating table, the subjects will transfer money to H.
Through social networks, C. and P. found a kidney buyer, Ms. LTT (born in 1983, residing in Hanoi), who wanted to buy a kidney. After the hospital's screening test, it was determined that Mr. H.'s kidney was suitable, so C. "bargained" to sell it for 1 billion VND.
The case is being further investigated to strictly handle the subjects according to the law.
