Following the instructions of a Facebook account, Mr. Q. in Hanoi used an Android phone to access the download link for the software 'Visa Korean' and discovered that nearly 200 million VND was missing from his account.
On April 13, Hanoi City Police said that in early April 2025, Mr. Q. (born in 2005, residing in Dan Phuong district) searched for information about applying for a Korean visa online.
Then, a Facebook account sent a message instructing Mr. Q. to use an Android phone to access a link to download a software called "Visa Korean". After logging into the software, Mr. Q.'s phone suddenly froze.
Suspecting that he had been scammed, Mr. Q. checked his bank account and received a notice that the account had been locked. When he went to the bank to check, he discovered that nearly 200 million VND had been withdrawn from his account. Immediately after, he went to the police to report the incident.
Hanoi City Police advise people to be vigilant against online scams. Absolutely do not install software or applications following instructions from strangers calling or texting.
Installing fake software can cause the mobile device to be taken over. Incoming messages and calls can be secretly routed to a server controlled by the scammer without being displayed on the victim's phone.
More dangerously, the subject can remotely control the phone, access the bank account and transfer all the victim's money.
When encountering cases showing signs of fraud, people need to quickly report to the police for support and handling according to the provisions of the law.
