On May 16, the Ministry of Science and Technology held the 2023 Science and Technology Journalism Awards Ceremony. The works focused on timely and vividly reflecting topical topics in the Science and Technology sector.
After 2 rounds of preliminary and final judging, 23 works and groups of works were approved and awarded by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). The winning authors and groups of authors received the 2023 Science and Technology Journalism Award Cup, Certificates and prizes from the Organizing Committee of the Award.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Chairman of the Final Jury of the 2023 Science and Technology Journalism Award, said that the Science and Technology Journalism Award has affirmed its role and position as a prestigious award, increasingly spreading, and being an intellectual playground for reporters and editors interested in science and technology.
“In 2023, recognizing the creative efforts from form to content of the entries, the specialized columns on science and technology in newspapers have brought new vitality. The content of the selected press works on science and technology comes from the breath of life and reaches many readers. In addition, many press agencies and journalists innovate their forms of expression to keep up with general trends such as: Convergence, multimedia, multi-platform, digital integration; mobile journalism, data journalism, creative journalism, podcasts, artificial intelligence. Modern press works such as Megastory, Longform, E-magazine... on electronic newspapers continue to be promoted,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Hoang Giang said that each work is a piece in the overall picture of science, technology and innovation activities, spreading information and love for science and technology, and passion for creativity. This is also an important information channel for policy makers to make important decisions, close to reality or adjust policies to promote science, technology and innovation activities.
According to the evaluation of the Awarding Council, in general, the works have reflected all aspects of S&T activities of scientists, localities, businesses as well as people; addressing urgent and practical contents of economic and social life. Some works are of good quality, the articles show in-depth attention to topical topics, the comments reflect the requirements and impacts of S&T activities.
Last year, the press focused on promptly and vividly reflecting the results of activities and major events of the science and technology sector, and topical topics such as: Building mechanisms and policies to remove bottlenecks to accelerate the development of science and technology; the impact of the 4th industrial revolution on social life; digital transformation; artificial intelligence; innovative startups...
Through the works, the role and position of science and technology are affirmed in participating in solving practical problems in life such as the group of works: Development of science and technology - Specific mechanisms and "keys" to capital; Multimedia news package "Artificial Intelligence of Vietnam"; Science and technology - The fulcrum for agriculture to firmly play the role of "support"...
The Science and Technology Journalism Award is organized annually by the Ministry of Science and Technology to honor authors with outstanding journalism works on science and technology. This is the recognition of the Ministry of Science and Technology in honoring journalists with a scientific spirit, who have made great efforts to research, discover, and reflect the results of science and technology activities in the development of the country.
After 12 years of organization and implementation, on November 20, 2023, the Minister of Science and Technology issued Decision No. 2644/QD-BKHCN amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Regulations on awarding the "Journalism Award on Science and Technology".
One of the new points of Decision 2644/QD-BKHCN is that for the first time, the Science and Technology Journalism Award considers awarding the photojournalism category; press agencies and authors directly submit entries instead of having their entries compiled by the Standing Agency as before; press works that have won the National Press Award and the press awards of ministries and branches are not eligible to participate in the award...
At the event, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Hoang Giang also launched the 2024 Science and Technology Journalism Award.
