My wedding could not take place as planned because the bride's family insisted on giving a gold necklace in addition to the usual dowry, while the price of gold was skyrocketing.

I can't get a wife, the price of gold is too high.

I am nearly 30 years old this year, working as a worker at a company in my hometown Nam Dinh. My income is about 7 million VND a month, enough for living expenses in my hometown. I try to spend reasonably and scientifically, so I still have some savings, but not much.

In preparation for my wedding, I have been working overtime and looking for more part-time jobs to increase my income. However, my wedding, which was scheduled to take place in April, did not go as planned due to the record-breaking price of gold.

My family is not very well off. Before the wedding, the savings were used to repair the house and build the wedding room. Near the wedding day, the bride's family suddenly made a request that, in addition to the dowry, the groom's family must give the bride a necklace worth at least 5 taels of gold at the wedding.

With the current price of gold, this wedding gift for the bride costs nearly 40 million VND, which is not a small amount of money for a farming family like mine.

With the hope that the wedding would go well as planned, I asked my future in-laws for permission to give a symbolic gift, saying that after the wedding I would earn money to give a 5-tael gold necklace. However, the bride's family did not agree, insisting that the wedding would only be held if the groom's family agreed to give the requested dowry. Although my fiancée understood my situation, she could not decide on this matter on her own.

Because the bride's family's request exceeded my financial capacity, the two families could not find common ground and the wedding had to be postponed.

In fact, I myself also wanted to give my wife a truly solemn and valuable wedding gift, worthy of her and of the special event of my life, but I was powerless. Before the Lunar New Year 2024, the price of gold rings was just over 6 million VND per tael, now it has reached nearly 8 million VND, more than my monthly salary.

Faced with this problem, my fiancee advised me to try to borrow money or buy gold bracelets in installments so that I could hold the wedding as planned. But the monthly installments compared to my current income are quite large, and the interest is not small. After the wedding, married life still requires many expenses, so if I try to buy wedding gold in installments, the financial burden on my shoulders will be too much.

I have analyzed and talked with my future wife's family many times but have not found a solution. The bride's family said that they do not want to lose face with relatives when their daughter does not receive gold from her husband's family on her wedding day.

Because I couldn't afford to buy a gold bracelet, in the eyes of my future wife's family, I was no longer a beloved future son-in-law, and my wife's parents were openly indifferent.

I am very worried that if the price of gold continues to set new records in the coming days and does not decrease, the wedding day will continue to be delayed. Because of this worry, I am wondering, hesitant, thinking about whether I should take out a loan to buy wedding gold as suggested by the bride's family.

If I continue to wait for the price of gold to drop or for me to earn enough money, it may take too long, and who knows, my fiancee might get tired of it and move on to someone else. If that happens, I risk not being able to get married.

Please give me advice.
