FIFA announces the list of nominees for The Best 2021 award

FIFA has announced the nominees for The Best 2021. The winners will be announced in an online ceremony on January 17, 2022.

The nominees for each award were selected by expert panels across men's and women's football, including Eniola Aluko, Emma Byrne and Marta Tejedor, as well as Tim Cahill, David Trezeguet and Alexi Lalas.

Public voting for each category will be open until 10 December 2021 and FIFA will ultimately announce the three finalists for each award in early 2022.

In the list of 11 people for the Best Men's Player award 2021, there are many stars from the Premier League such as Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium/Man City), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal/Juventus/Man United), Jorginho (Italy/Chelsea), N'Golo Kante (France/Chelsea) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt/Liverpool).

Six-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi has also been shortlisted along with Paris Saint-Germain teammates Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Last year's winner Robert Lewandowski, Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema complete the 11-man shortlist for The Best 2021 men's player award.

In the Best Goalkeeper category, Alisson, Kasper Schmeichel, Edouard Mendy, Manuel Neuer and Gianluigi Donnarumma are in contention. The seven best coaches competing are Pep Guardiola, Thomas Tuchel, Antonio Conte, Roberto Mancini, Hansi Flick, Lionel Scaloni and Diego Simeone.

Meanwhile, the English Women's Championship has seven players on the 13-man shortlist for the Best FIFA Women's Player award. Arsenal striker Vivianne Mediema is among the nominees, along with Manchester City duo Ellen White and Lucy Bronze and Chelsea quartet Magdalena Eriksson, Pernille Harder, Ji So-yun and Sam Kerr.
