German Chancellor Olaf Scholz affirmed that Germany will continue to provide military support to Ukraine in the long term.
On February 16, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a bilateral security agreement, under which Berlin will provide an additional military aid package worth 1.13 billion euros ($1.22 billion) to Kiev.
The German Defense Ministry said the new military aid portfolio for Ukraine includes 120,000 122mm artillery shells and 100 IRIS-T SLS missiles delivered this year, as well as a second SkyNext air defense system delivered in 2025.
In addition, Germany will supply 18 more Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns - one of the most powerful guns in the country's army's arsenal - to Ukraine in 2026 and 2027.
The signing ceremony of the bilateral security agreement between Germany and Ukraine took place in the capital Berlin, on the same day as the opening of the Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2024 in the southern German city of Munich.
Speaking at a joint press conference with President Zelensky after the signing of the bilateral security agreement, Chancellor Scholz affirmed that Germany will continue to provide military support to Ukraine in the long term.
President Zelensky is expected to be in the French capital Paris on the evening of February 16 (local time) to sign a similar agreement with his host counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
Last month, the Ukrainian leader signed a bilateral security agreement with the UK during Chancellor Rishi Sunak's visit to Kiev.
