Does the temperature gauge on the dashboard warn of a car fire?

There are cases where the temperature gauge on the dashboard increases too high, warning of the risk of the car catching fire, but in many other cases the car catches fire without the temperature gauge warning.

On today's cars, the engine temperature is displayed by the temperature gauge on the dashboard. By design, the temperature needle operates based on the voltage signal from the coolant temperature sensor mounted on the engine block. Some cars have an additional sensor at the thermostat to compare the coolant outlet temperature.

Analyzing the operating mechanism of the engine temperature gauge, auto engineer Tran Van Chung said that the coolant temperature always fluctuates from about 70 - 100 degrees Celsius depending on the vehicle's operating conditions and maintains a fairly stable temperature.

When the car has a coolant leak, leading to a lack of water to cool the engine, the cooling fan does not run, the water pump does not work, the thermostat is stuck in a closed state and cannot circulate water, or the radiator is clogged due to dirt... leading to the engine overheating, boiling water (temperature around 110-120 degrees Celsius). At this time, the temperature gauge on the dashboard will increase abnormally, up to level H or the red line, which means it is a sign that the car may catch fire.

At this time, the driver needs to get out of the car to check the coolant system for leaks. After eliminating serious damage, turn off the car and let it rest for about 20-30 minutes before opening the auxiliary water tank cap to check and add coolant, if the coolant is low. Then you can start and continue driving at a moderate speed, while constantly checking the temperature needle throughout the journey.

If the temperature of the thermometer needle increases abnormally, the vehicle owner should immediately take the vehicle to a garage for inspection and to determine the exact cause.

In fact, there are also cases where the car catches fire due to an electrical short circuit, a fuel leak, or a straw caught fire under the car... the temperature gauge cannot warn. Even when the car is starting to burn, the temperature needle is still in a normal state.
