On the afternoon of July 28, the jury announced the sentences for 54 defendants in the rescue flight case. Four defendants were sentenced to life in prison.
On the afternoon of July 28, the Hanoi People's Court announced the sentences for 54 defendants in the rescue flight case.
This case occurred during the COVID-19 outbreak and the Government had a policy of bringing Vietnamese citizens back to the country by rescue flights and combo flights.
Of the 54 defendants sentenced this afternoon, 21 are officials and former officials. The jury sentenced four defendants to life in prison: Hoang Van Hung (former investigator), Pham Trung Kien (former secretary of the Deputy Minister of Health), Vu Anh Tuan (former deputy head of the Immigration Department, Ministry of Public Security) and Nguyen Thi Huong Lan (former director of the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
In addition, 10 defendants received suspended sentences.
