Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office confirmed that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was launched towards his residence in central Israel.
In a statement released on October 19, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said a drone was launched towards the prime minister's residence in Caesarea earlier in the day. The prime minister and his wife were not present at the location and there were no casualties in the incident.
The announcement came after the military reported that a drone had been launched from Lebanon and “crashed into a building” in the central Israeli town. The military said it had intercepted two other drones also launched from Lebanon. Israel’s ambulance service also said there were no reports of casualties.
In addition, the Israeli military said at least 115 shells were fired from Lebanon into the country on October 19. Most of the shells were fired into the north of the country, causing sirens to sound across the region.
Meanwhile, Lebanese authorities said two people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on October 19 in Jounieh, north of Beirut. This was the first Israeli airstrike in the area since Hezbollah began attacking Israel last year.
Lebanon's health ministry said the raid hit a car in Jounieh, while Lebanese media said the attack occurred on a key highway linking the capital with the north.
The developments come amid escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. The Israeli military said it had destroyed Hezbollah's regional command center a day earlier, while Hezbollah said it had fired a barrage of rockets at the Israeli city of Haifa and northern areas, and a series of explosive-laden drones at the central Israeli city of Hadera.
