The above developments were predicted in advance, after Mr. Benny Gantz, a member of the National Coalition party, announced his withdrawal from the government on June 9.

Following the move, Prime Minister Netanyahu is now expected to hold consultations on the war in Gaza with a small group of ministers, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, who was also a member of the War Cabinet.

Mr. Benny Gantz served as Israel's Defense Minister from 2020 to 2022. He joined the unity government in Israel when the conflict with Hamas broke out last October and the War Cabinet was formed afterwards. Mr. Gantz's presence in the War Cabinet is said to have contributed to enhancing Israel's reputation with international partners, including the United States.

On June 9, Benny Gantz announced his resignation from the government, saying that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had failed to develop a strategy for the conflict with Hamas. He also called on the Israeli leader to set a date for early elections to form a government that “has the people’s trust and can face the challenges.”
