On November 19, An Giang Provincial Police proposed to prosecute 5 subjects for the crime of "Illegal manufacture, storage, and trading of military weapons".
The five subjects proposed for prosecution include: Lam Thien Nhat (born in 1994), Ho An Thinh (born in 2005), Ton Thanh Nghia (born in 2003), all residing in Nui Sap town, Thoai Son district, An Giang province; Ho Ngoc Hieu (born in 2004, residing in Oc Eo town, Thoai Son district) and Tran Van Tam (born in 2003, residing in Tan Tuyen commune, Tri Ton district, An Giang).
According to the investigation conclusion, on December 20, 2022, through the management of the area, Thoai Son District Police discovered and seized at Lam Thien Nhat's residence 5 guns of various types, 4 kg of lead bullets, 4 bullets, 2 binoculars, 2 silencers, 1 homemade knife and many other related evidence.
Through the appraisal, it was determined that 2/5 guns seized from Nhat were military weapons. Therefore, on February 15, 2023, Thoai Son District Police transferred the report on the crime of illegal possession of military weapons to the An Giang Provincial Police Security Investigation Agency for investigation according to its authority.
Then, on June 20, 2023, the An Giang Provincial Police Department of Investigation Security issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused, and issue an arrest warrant to detain Lam Thien Nhat for the act of "Illegal manufacture, storage, and trading of military weapons". Expanding the case, An Giang Provincial Police continued to prosecute and arrest additional subjects Ho Ngoc Hieu, Tran Van Tam, Ho An Thinh, and Ton Thanh Nghia.
According to the investigation results, An Giang Provincial Police determined: In 2021, through social networks, Nhat ordered 3 guns, including 1 military gun, ammunition and equipment for 12.5 million VND, and brought them back to his rented place in Nui Sap town to hide. In 2022, through social networks, Ho Ngoc Hieu and Tran Van Tam also ordered 2 Rulo guns for 5 million VND and brought them home to hide to resolve conflicts with other subjects in the area. After the guns were damaged, Tam, Hieu, Thinh and Nghia brought 2 guns to hire Nhat to repair and reassemble them into 1 military gun.
After fixing the gun, Nhat had not yet handed it over to Hieu and his accomplices when he was discovered by the police. After that, the subjects were arrested one by one.
