Nghe An police have just successfully broken up a case, arresting 17 subjects in a transnational online gambling ring with a total transaction amount of more than 10 million USDT (equivalent to more than 250 billion VND).
Through the work of grasping the situation, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and the Criminal Police Department (Nghe An Provincial Police) discovered an online gambling ring in the form of binary options (BO) on the website "Lokichi.com".
“Lokichi.com” is a gambling website in the form of binary options investment based on the volatility of the BTC/USDT virtual currency pair.
Accordingly, after registering a gambling account on this website, players will predict the up and down trend of the BTC/USDT virtual currency pair, from there choose to buy or sell orders, each betting session has a duration of 30 seconds.
At the end of the trading session, if the up or down direction of the virtual currency pair matches the player's prediction and bet, the player wins 95% of the bet amount; conversely, if the buy or sell order is placed opposite to the up or down direction of the virtual currency, the player will lose the entire bet amount.
This gang operates mobilely, inter-provincially and internationally, with servers located abroad, run by foreigners, using very sophisticated and professional methods and tricks.
In Vietnam, this ring was led by Tran Vu Toan (born in 1990, residing in Binh Thanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) and Nguyen Dinh Khoi (born in 1994, residing in Tay Hoa district, Phu Yen province).
To attract more players, Toan and other subjects used social networking platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, Telegram... to polish their names, boasting about their wealth after participating in the "Lokichi.com" trading floor by taking photos, buying luxury cars, branded goods, and traveling to many places.
Under the direction of the Nghe An Provincial Police, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department and the Criminal Police Department co-chaired and established a special project to combat the crime.
After an investigation period, from August 29 to 30, the task force coordinated with police units and localities to simultaneously arrest 17 subjects in the provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Hanoi, Yen Bai, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Yen, Kon Tum and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
In Nghe An, the police arrested four suspects: Hoang Thi Hoa (born in 1982, residing in Vinh City; the ringleader); Trinh Xuan Duc (born in 2001, residing in Nghi Loc District); Tran Thi Xuan (born in 1987, residing in Vinh City) and Hoang Thi Thu Trang (born in 1987, residing in Do Luong District).
Police seized evidence of the case including: 5 cars, 20 phones, 1 desktop computer.
Authorities determined that from the beginning of 2024 until now, the total amount of money that subjects transacted online gambling from the website "Lokichi.com" amounted to more than 10 million USDT (digital currency, equivalent to more than 250 billion VND).
The case is currently under further investigation.
