Australian National University (ANU) uses SAT and ACT scores to directly consider students from all high schools in Vietnam, instead of only prioritizing specialized schools.

Mr. Andy Pham, Senior Manager of Mekong Region of ANU, announced this news on December 6. Previously, ANU only considered students from 92 specialized schools and key schools for direct university entrance (except students following international programs). Otherwise, they had to study a preparatory program before entering the first year. Candidates need to have an average grade of grade 12 (from 8.5 or higher), IELTS English certificate (minimum 6.5, no skill below 6) or equivalent.

"Now, if in addition to the above list, students need to submit additional SAT/ACT scores. The school will consider granting invitation letters and scholarships," said Mr. Andy.

Minimum SAT score requirement is 1170/1600; ACT 23/36, depending on the major. Some majors such as Law require SAT 1430 and ACT 33/36 or higher.

Explaining the adjustment, Mr. Andy Pham said there were two reasons. First, the number of international students from Vietnam is enough for ANU to evaluate the quality. The Admissions and Academic Board has surveyed the students' achievements and academic abilities and found that they have achieved good results over the past year. Second, Vietnam has many excellent students in high schools, not just specialized and key schools.

"It would be unfair for these students not to have the opportunity to apply to ANU. Therefore, the university decided to expand admissions and require SAT/ACT," he said.

ANU is one of the top 8 universities in Australia. According to the rankingQS2025, the school will be ranked 30th in the world. ANU's average tuition fee in 2025 is 53,000 AUD (865 million VND).
