Clear and specific orientation on foreign affairs
Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung said that there have been many documents, books and newspapers written about Vietnam's foreign affairs and diplomacy in the past, but this is the first book that clearly explains the nature and essence of Vietnam's diplomacy, and sets out a very clear and specific direction for Vietnam's foreign affairs.
Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung said he was very impressed with the General Secretary's speech at the 2021 National Foreign Affairs Conference.
In his speech, the General Secretary emphasized the unique value of Vietnam's "bamboo diplomacy". Bamboo is a typical Vietnamese tree, very flexible but extremely sturdy, associated with the thousands of years of history of building and defending the country of our people.
The Ambassador believes that the image of the Vietnamese bamboo tree associated with the diplomatic sector is the most accurate and beautiful symbol. The Ambassador agrees with the opinions of experts who evaluate that the book has raised the level of theory and practical thinking about Vietnam's foreign policy and diplomacy.
Regarding diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos, according to Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has put forward very flexible principles, based on the simple truth mentioned by President Ho Chi Minh: "Helping the people of a neighboring country is helping yourself."
That is the grand strategy in foreign relations, demonstrating a flexible and adaptable strategy, containing the close brotherly and comradely affection between the two peoples.
Over the past decades, our Party and State have thoroughly grasped and well implemented this strategic guideline, contributing to nurturing and developing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos to be increasingly sustainable and achieve many new achievements.
The Ambassador said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong directly participated in directing and expressing his views through articles and speeches related to the relationship between the two countries, leaving a very deep impression on the leadership, cadres and people of Lao ethnic groups.
The Ambassador said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's speech at the National University of Laos in 2016 is still used as a document in Lao schools.
The General Secretary's statements at meetings between the two countries' leaders are kept, summarized and regularly disseminated by the host country at conferences, forums or major events.
The foreign policy and diplomacy with the strong identity of "Vietnamese bamboo" can be said to have been clearly demonstrated very early in the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos.
“Many Lao scholars and experts have commented and highly appreciated the content of the book. Hopefully, the book will soon be translated into many languages, including Lao, so that it can become a research document,” Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung shared.

Ambassador Pham Sao Mai said that this is a book of especially important theoretical and practical value to help departments, ministries, Party organizations and authorities at all levels carry out foreign affairs work.
