The Mao Zedong Memorial Park is located at the site of the Gutian Conference, where Mao Zedong and the predecessors of the Chinese revolution held the Gutian Conference (December 28-29, 1929), an iconic event in Chinese history.

In March 1961, the State Council (Chinese Government) announced the site of the Gutian Conference as China's first national key cultural relic.
