Adobe said on April 17 that it plans to integrate new artificial intelligence (AI) features into its video editing software for television and film.

The new tools will let video editors perform tasks including changing a scene from midday to dusk or adding background music simply by typing in a few keywords to tell the system to do it.

These tools are based on a new system called Firefly that Adobe launched last month for creating images and text. Specifically, for the AI-integrated video editing tool, users can ask the system to read the script, then automatically split the scene, suggesting some rough cuts of the story.

For advertising, this system includes features such as inserting titles, background images, and adding background music to be able to advertise in many countries.

Adobe is joining the generative AI wave, following the likes of OpenAI and Stability AI, which let users create new images with just a few descriptive words.

However, after Getty Images sued Stability AI for using its copyrighted images to train AI systems, many legal questions have been raised around whether the products of such AI systems are allowed for commercial use.

Adobe - one of the largest software providers for artists in the audiovisual field - promises customers that products from the Firefly system will be legally safe for commercial use.

In an interview with the press, Adobe's Vice President of Digital and Video Audio, Mr. Ivo Manolov, said that with just one click, from one video, Adobe can create 1,000 versions of the video for each country.

Adobe is currently testing the system and plans to launch these video tools this year.
