On the occasion of Vietnamese Women's Day October 20, Thanh Ha District Police (Hai Duong) visited and presented gifts to two elderly women in the district.
On the afternoon of October 20, leaders of Thanh Ha District Police visited and presented gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mother Pham Thi Bay (born in 1922) in Tu Y village, Vinh Lap commune, whose two sons are martyrs. Mother Pham Thi Bay is currently the only living Vietnamese Heroic Mother in Thanh Ha district.
The delegation visited monk Thich Dam Thao (born in 1917) at Sung Phuc Pagoda in Xuan Ang village, Thanh Xuan commune. Monk Thich Dam Thao is the oldest living soldier who served in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in Hai Duong.
Venerable Thich Dam Thao was born in Gia Vien (Ninh Binh province). In 1952, following the call for resistance, the nun, along with many other monks in the North, donned military uniforms and joined the army against the French, serving as a medical worker, caring for wounded and sick soldiers at Hill A1.
After the Dien Bien Phu campaign was completely victorious (1954), Venerable Thich Dam Thao returned to continue his practice at Huong Tich Pagoda (Hanoi). In 1961, she became the abbot of Sung Phuc Pagoda until now.
