On February 6, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the launching ceremony of the "Forever grateful to Uncle Ho" tree planting festival in the spring of Nham Dan 2022, organized by Phu Tho province in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development at the Hung Temple historical relic site (Phu Tho), the sacred land of the origin of the Vietnamese people.
Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent his warm regards, warmest sentiments and best wishes for the New Year to the people and soldiers nationwide, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Phu Tho province.
The President reiterated Uncle Ho's call "Spring is the season for tree planting, making the country more and more Springy"; emphasizing that during his lifetime, despite being busy with a thousand and one things, he always paid attention to tree planting, afforestation, beautifying the landscape and creating healthy living conditions, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
The President said that humanity is facing enormous challenges from global climate change, extreme weather events, storms, floods, landslides, droughts, and salinity, causing serious consequences to life and property.
Therefore, afforestation and forest protection play an increasingly important role, both an urgent task and a strategic one for people's lives and the country's sustainable development.
The President pointed out that in recent times, the Party and State have paid attention to directing the implementation of many programs on afforestation, forest restoration and scattered tree planting, promoting the protection of the ecological environment, and creating raw materials from planted forest wood for the wood processing industry.
Directive 45 dated December 31, 2020 of the Prime Minister requested to organize a Tet tree planting movement and strengthen forest protection and development to implement the Program of planting one billion trees for a green Vietnam.
On April 1, 2021, the Prime Minister approved Project No. 524 with the goal of planting one billion trees nationwide by the end of 2025, of which 690 million trees will be scattered in urban and rural areas, 310 million trees will be concentrated in protective forests, special-use forests and newly planted production forests.
Expressing his joy at the results of 2021, the whole country planted 210 million trees, reaching 115% of the plan, in which some localities had good results such as Nghe An (7.3 million trees); Thanh Hoa (5.3 million trees); Lam Dong (4 million trees); Ha Tinh (3.3 million trees); Quang Nam (3 million trees); Ca Mau (3 million trees); Cao Bang (3 million trees), Phu Tho (1.5 million trees) ... and many good models and methods of actively planting trees have appeared, the President commended the localities, organizations, businesses and individuals who have actively responded to the Prime Minister's program of planting one billion trees.
The President noted that the quality of natural forests is still low, many protective forest areas have not yet fully developed their functions; the ratio of trees/people in urban areas and many rural areas is still low compared to national standards and lower than many countries in the world.
According to the plan, from 2022-2025, an average of 204.5 million trees will be planted per year, of which 142.5 million will be scattered trees, an increase of 1.8 times compared to 2020, so it requires great determination to achieve this.

Each person, each household, each agency and organization should make specific and practical contributions to the implementation of the Program to plant one billion trees in the period 2021-2025 - For a green Vietnam, contributing to building our country to be forever green and sustainable.
In that spirit, the President requested strict implementation of Directive No. 13-CT/TW of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in forest management, protection and development and forestry laws.
All levels and sectors need to continue to promote the program For a Green Vietnam; develop specific and practical action plans, including launching emulation movements for everyone to plant trees, every household to plant trees to green the roads and houses; plant forests, protect, pay attention to planting protective forests in upstream, border, coastal and island areas, care for, and preserve trees to grow well; encourage creative forms and methods among all classes of people.
Further promote the application of technology in tree breeding, tree planting and afforestation; link afforestation and forest protection with the development of forest environmental services and ecotourism, biodiversity conservation; and preserve traditional cultural identity.
Strive to proactively source more than 80% of raw wood for processing and export, making Vietnam the world's leading center for production and export of wood and products from planted forests.
Continue to implement the policy of closing natural forests and not using illegal timber, preventing illegal logging, forest burning, illegal exploitation, encroachment and misuse of forests, and strictly handling violations.
The President also requested Phu Tho province to plant at least 2 million trees in 2022 as planned.
After beating the drum to launch the Tree Planting Festival, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and leaders of several ministries, sectors, localities and people of Phu Tho province planted trees at the Hung Kings Temple historical relic site.
