Embezzling over 405 billion VND, "female monster" burst into tears in court when receiving life sentence

On August 7-8, the People's Court of Quang Nam province opened the first instance trial of 4 defendants: Nguyen Thi Tuyet Trinh (born in 1985, residing in Tam Ky city, Quang Nam), Le Thi Linh (born in1991, residing in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province), Pham Van Thai (born in1989, residing in Phu Ninh district, Quang Nam), Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy (born in1993, residing in Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam) for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

Defendant Trinh burst into tears when receiving a life sentence.

According to the indictment, in 2011, Trinh was a small seafood trader in Tam Ky City. Due to business losses leading to debt, Trinh came up with the idea of ​​defrauding and appropriating the property of many people.

In June 2019, Trinh provided false information that he was trading in seafood for export in large quantities and called on many people to invest capital to receive profits. Based on the amount of capital contributed, investors will receive a profit of 10 - 12% of the order value, each order will be completed in 3-5 days.

At first, Trinh called for investment from only a few tens of millions to a few hundred million VND from many people to pay off debts and return capital contributions to investors.

To gain the trust of investors, Trinh and Linh created 11 seafood sales invoices (each invoice value ranging from tens of billions to hundreds of billions of VND). Specifically, Linh confirmed to investors that she was a large seafood supplier for Trinh and had many large seafood warehouses located in Nha Trang City. Trusting Trinh and Linh's words, many people mobilized and contributed capital for Trinh to do business with a total amount of more than 264 billion VND.

In addition to Linh's help, Trinh also colluded with Thai and Thuy. These two people pretended to be seafood customers and came to place orders to gain the trust of many people who contributed capital.

Through investigation, it was determined that from June 2019 to August 2020, with the help of Linh, Thai and Thuy, Trinh directly received investment capital contributions from many people, thereby defrauding and appropriating 7 victims with a total amount of more than 405 billion VND. Trinh paid the profits and part of the principal to the 7 victims.

After reviewing the case file, the Trial Panel decided to sentence defendant Trinh to life in prison, defendant Linh to 18 years in prison, defendant Thai to 13 years in prison, and defendant Thuy to 12 years in prison for the crime of Fraudulent appropriation of property.
