This year’s Paralympics will see a new generation of athletes compete alongside seasoned veterans of previous Games. The games will be held at several venues in central Paris, some of which hosted the Paris 2024 Olympic Games earlier this month.

The Paralympic Opening Ceremony is scheduled to take place at Place de la Concorde, which is also the venue for the skateboarding event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Venues such as the Grand Palais, La Defense Arena or the State de France stadium are also selected as venues for swimming and athletics events for disabled athletes.

Unlike the Olympics, ticket sales for Paralympic sports started slowly, but have picked up significantly, with some venues already sold out.

Every Olympics creates new stars. For this year's Paralympics, 19-year-old American sprinter and high jumper Ezra Frech is capturing the public's attention.

Many other familiar names are also back, such as British sprinter Jonnie Peacock - one of the most famous athletes at the London 2012 Paralympics - who is bidding for a fourth consecutive Paralympic medal.

China will once again send a strong team to compete at this year's Games, after winning 96 gold medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. Host nation France has said it is also aiming to improve on its 11 gold medals from the last Paralympics. Ukraine will enter with a team of 140 athletes. Athletes from Russia and Belarus will compete as neutrals.

International Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons hopes the Games will help raise global focus on the issues facing people with disabilities.
