Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met bilaterally with the Foreign Ministers of the United States and Japan.

In Bangkok, on the occasion of attending the APEC 2022 Summit Week, on the afternoon of November 17, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Japanese counterpart Hayashi Yoshimasa.

At the meeting with the top US diplomat, the two ministers expressed their delight at the strong development in many areas of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership, including maintaining delegation exchanges and high-level contacts, economic cooperation, trade, investment, sustainable development, green energy, clean energy, digital transformation, and infrastructure development.

Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the US is one of Vietnam's leading partners and hopes that the two sides will work together to further deepen bilateral relations, towards the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Partnership in 2023.

To promote bilateral cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to increase contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones; strengthen economic-trade, security-defense, education-training cooperation, and cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war, including the detoxification of Bien Hoa airport and the search for the remains of Vietnamese soldiers who died in the war.

On this occasion, Secretary Blinken congratulated Vietnam on its election to the United Nations Human Rights Council. The two ministers agreed to discuss and coordinate at regional and international forums on issues of mutual concern, including strengthening cooperation with ASEAN and the Mekong sub-region.

* At the meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa, the two ministers expressed their satisfaction with the positive development of Vietnam-Japan relations in all areas. The two ministers agreed to strengthen close coordination to implement the agreements between the two Prime Ministers at the meeting on November 12, 2022, including Japan's early implementation of new-generation ODA loans, supporting Vietnam in the process of socio-economic development, industrialization, modernization, and green transformation.

To promote cooperation between the two countries in the coming time, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023, the two ministers agreed that the two countries should increase the exchange of delegations at all levels; strengthen cooperation in the post-COVID-19 period in all fields; enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges, local cooperation, and tourism; and coordinate in organizing activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023.

Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two countries’ foreign ministries strengthen cooperation and improve the effectiveness of dialogue mechanisms between the two foreign ministries; increase the number of Vietnamese workers and trainees working in Japan in the spirit of mutually beneficial cooperation; and request Japan to continue simplifying visa procedures and facilitating entry for Vietnamese citizens into Japan.

Minister Hayashi affirmed that Vietnam holds a leading position in implementing Japan's foreign policy in the region; highly appreciated Vietnam's role and position in the region and internationally; affirmed that Japan highly values ​​and wishes to strengthen cooperation in all fields, and hopes that the two foreign ministries will continue to coordinate to promote important cooperation projects between the two countries, and closely coordinate to promote agricultural exports of both countries.

In addition, the two ministers also exchanged opinions on international and regional issues of mutual concern; agreed to closely coordinate in multilateral cooperation mechanisms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC, etc. The Japanese Foreign Minister happily accepted Minister Bui Thanh Son's invitation to visit Vietnam.
