Question: When I made my child's birth certificate, I did not write the father's name because we were not married. Now he wants to adopt the child and marry me, can I add the father's name to the child's birth certificate?

According to the provisions of the civil status law, in this case, adding the father's information to the child's birth certificate is allowed.
Specifically, Clause 2, Article 16 of Circular No. 04/2020/TT-BTP of the Minister of Justice detailing the implementation of a number of articles of the Law on Civil Status and Decree No. 123/2015/ND-CP of the Government detailing a number of articles and measures to implement the Law on Civil Status stipulates as follows:
"In case the child born to the wife before the time of marriage registration has been registered but there is no information about the father, now the couple has a document acknowledging that the child is their common child, they do not have to go through the procedure of acknowledging the father and child, but have to go through the procedure of supplementing the household registration to record additional information about the father in the birth registration book and birth certificate of the child."
Thus, after registering their marriage, the couple can apply the above regulations to add the father's information to their child's birth certificate.
