Professor Yann LeCun is one of the world's leading scientists who will participate in the discussion "Deploying Artificial Intelligence in Practice" taking place on December 4 in Hanoi. This is the third discussion in the "Science for Life" discussion series, part of the VinFuture Science and Technology Week 2024.

He is currently Vice President and Chief AI Scientist at Meta, and a professor at New York University, USA.

Yann LeCun (born 1960 in Paris - France), is one of the pioneers in the field of deep learning and convolutional neural networks (CNN).

This French scientist developed the LeNet model in the 1990s, the first CNN model used for handwriting recognition.

CNN has now become an important tool in the field of computer vision and image processing, and is the foundation of many products and services deployed by companies such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Baidu, IBM, NEC, AT&T in video, document, image, and voice recognition.

He also proposed the Deep Q-Network (DQN) model in 2013. This is a method that uses deep learning to train AI systems to play video games.

Professor LeCun has published over 200 papers on this topic as well as on handwriting recognition, image compression, and dedicated hardware for AI.

In 2018, Professor LeCun, along with two scientists Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, received the Turing Award - considered the Nobel Prize in the field of computer science.

"AI can answer all questions and help us in our daily lives. One day, AI may be smarter than humans. But we should not be threatened by that, but feel that there is an opportunity to take advantage of AI to have a better life. Imagine you have a team of intelligent employees who are AI technologies that help you work," Professor LeCun explained.

Unlike most researchers in the field, Professor LeCun is very optimistic about the future of AI and the potential of this technology: "I have faith in organizations and research institutes that will maximize the benefits of AI technology for good. We need to continue to develop smarter AI, because the smarter AI is, the safer it will be."
