Da Nang's super VIP five-digit number plate 43A-888.88 closed at nearly 17.7 billion on the morning of April 22

Among the 6,000 license plates put up for auction by Vietnam Joint Stock Auction Company (VPA) this morning (April 22), the super VIP five-digit 8 license plate of Da Nang, 43A-888.88, was priced at the highest price of 17.685 billion VND after only 17 bids.

Number 8 in Sino-Vietnamese is "bat", pronounced quite similar to the word "phat", meaning prosperity, prosperous business, fulfilling work, brilliant career, and abundant money. License plates with five 8s are considered super VIP in terms of rarity, with a value equivalent to five 9s, especially when attached to the prefixes of major cities.

In April, many license plates with five 8s were paid very high prices by the rich and those who play with beautiful license plates. The record still belongs to license plate 30K-888.88 of Hanoi, which was paid up to 20.08 billion VND on April 11. Next is license plate 14A-888.88 of Quang Ninh, which was put up for auction again and closed at 17.3 billion VND on April 4.

Previously, another very famous five-digit number plate 8 of Ho Chi Minh City, 51K-888.88, was paid 15.265 billion VND in the re-auction on October 21, 2023. This number plate was then attached by the owner to an old Toyota Crown.
