31 medical staff of Hai Duong Lung Hospital registered to donate tissues and organs

On the afternoon of June 20, Hai Duong Lung Hospital organized a campaign to register for human tissue and organ donation.

Associate Professor, Doctor Dong Van He, Deputy Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Director of the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation, presented certificates of registration for human tissue and organ donation to a number of medical staff of Hai Duong Lung Hospital.

Associate Professor, Doctor Dong Van He, Deputy Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Director of the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation, leaders of the Department of Health, along with 150 officials, civil servants, and employees of Hai Duong Lung Hospital, representatives of patients and patients' families attended.

Speaking at the launch, Associate Professor, Dr. Dong Van He emphasized that Hai Duong Lung Hospital is the first medical facility in Hai Duong province and one of the few medical facilities nationwide to organize a campaign to register for organ and tissue donation. This event will contribute significantly to raising awareness and spreading noble behaviors and gestures in the community.

Over the past 10 years, the number of people registering to donate tissues and organs in Vietnam has been increasing. Vietnamese medicine is now capable of transplanting all organs in the human body like other countries in the world. Vietnam is the first country in Southeast Asia to perform over 1,000 organ transplants per year...

However, the number of people registering to donate organs after death in Vietnam accounts for only 6% of the total number of registrations, while in developing countries it is from 40-90%. Over the past 10 years, each year the whole country has only had 10-12 cases of registering to donate organs after death. Thousands of patients are waiting for organ transplants but there are no donors. On average, every day the whole country has 36 people dying because they cannot get organ transplants. Vietnam has about 300,000 people waiting for corneal transplants...
