At 4:30 p.m. on February 19, 10/11 racing teams participating in the Clipper Race Round the World Yacht Race 2023 - 2024 season arrived at Ha Long International Passenger Port.
After more than 20 days of crossing the ocean with the starting point being Coral Sea port (Queensland, Australia), the yacht racing teams have completed race number 7, part of the 5th leg of the Clipper Race Round the World Yacht Race 2023 - 2024 season with the destination being Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh province, Vietnam).
Participating in the race is a racing boat representing Quang Ninh province named “Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam” led by British captain Josh Stickland. The sailors participating in the racing team are professionally trained in sailing, equipped with clothes with the logo promoting Ha Long, Quang Ninh.
The 400 sailors from 11 racing teams participating in this year's race include many scientists, businessmen, investors, doctors, journalists, social media celebrities... In addition, there are also a large number of tourists who are relatives of the sailors and international media flocking to the race destinations.
In Ha Long, the racing teams will stop for nearly 2 weeks and participate in destination promotion activities; experience and explore tourism, nature and culture in Ha Long.
On March 2, the boats will leave Ha Long to continue their journey to Cuu Chau port, Zhuhai city, Guangdong province, China.
On this occasion, Quang Ninh province will organize a number of activities to welcome the racing team and promote local tourism such as: introducing OCOP products, organizing tours, surveying destinations for Clipper Race crew, conferences to promote, advertise and attract investment in Quang Ninh tourism associated with the race award ceremony, boat tours and art programs...
Being part of an international sporting event like the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is a great opportunity for Quang Ninh, Vietnam to promote its tourism image to the world, while attracting international investors.
This is even more meaningful when this event takes place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ha Long Bay being recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage (1994 - 2024).
