Jubilant chung, day cake contest

Attending the contest were 10 chung cake (square glutinous rice cake) making teams and six day cake (round glutinous rice cake) making teams from different localities in the province.

This was the first highlight of the 2015 Con Son – Kiep Bac Spring Festival and an activity towards Hung Kings' Death Anniversary on lunar March 10.

After the contest opening drumbeat, the 10 teams taking part in the chung cake wrapping competition (no competitor from Gia Loc district and Hai Duong city) showed their skillful cake wrapping movements in encouraging shouts of numerous locals and visitors.

As a rule, each team assigned five artisans competing in wrapping 10 cakes (five vegetarian, five meaty) within a maximum period of 10 minutes and putting them on the jury's table. After their appearance was graded, the teams' cakes were boiled in seven hours.

In the afternoon, the day cake pestling competition took place in the rivalry of five districts of Thanh Ha, Tu Ky, Kinh Mon, Gia Loc, and Nam Sach and Chi Linh provincial town. Each team assigned six artisans to both steam glutinous rice and pestle five traditional day cakes within 45 minutes.

The Organizing Board of the 2015 Con Son – Kiep Bac Spring Festival announced the result and offered the chung and day cakes to Con Son pagoda and the temples of Nguyen Trai, Tran Nguyen Dan, Nam Tao, and Bac Dau on March 5 morning.

The first prize winning team will represent the province at the 2015 national chung and day cake contest at Hung temple festival (Phu Tho).
