The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee directed good zoning, preservation, and management, thereby studying and proposing a plan to expand the relic area.
The Hai Duong Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism on April 10 held the survey and scientific seminar "Historical, cultural, scientific value of Ngu Dai pagoda" in Hoang Tien commune (Chi Linh) with the participation of some Central scientists.
Addressing the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hien, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, agreed to the continuance of expanding archaeological surveys and excavations around Ngu Dai pagoda.
He directed the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and local authorities to well zone, preserve, and manage the relic area closely, thereby studying and proposing a plan to expand the relic area to attract worshippers.
The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee also desired that departments, boards, sectors, and local authorities would well coordinate with the scientists to finish the archaeological surveys and excavations at Ngu Dai pagoda as soon as possible.
The participants offered 12 suggestions focusing on discussing the historical, cultural, and spiritual value of Ngu Dai pagoda in the worshipping facility system of Truc Lam Zen.
Measures were proposed to extend archaeological surveys and excavations at Ngu Dai pagoda, zone and protect the landscape around the relic and the worshiping system, work out plans to develop spiritual tourism at Ngu Dai pagoda in the future, etc.
Ngu Dai pagoda, whose Sino-Vietnamese name is Kim Quang pagoda, is located at the foot of Dong Thoc mountain and dates from the 14th century under the reign of King Tran Minh Tong.
The pagoda is characterized by 丁-shaped architecture with five front and two central compartments.
The pagoda worships three patriarchs of Truc Lam Zen, namely King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong, 2nd Patriarch Phap Loa, and 3rd Patriarch Huyen Quang.
Besides wood statues and ancient worshipping items dating from the 17th - 19th centuries, a stone stele made in 1612 under the Le dynasty is being kept at the pagoda.
Apart from the historical and spiritual value, Ngu Dai pagoda is famous for the magnificent scenery of five sacred mountain peaks called Ngu Dai Son behind it.
