Defendant Pham Xuan Truong received money from 30 people with the promise of buying land at a cheap price and then appropriated it for online gambling.
Today, June 9, the People's Court of Quang Ninh province held a first-instance criminal trial and sentenced defendant Pham Xuan Truong (born in 1980, residing in Cam Thanh ward, Cam Pha city) to life in prison for fraud and property appropriation.
According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Quang Ninh province, from 2019 to July 2022, defendant Truong was the General Director of TTP Company. This company notified people who wanted to buy land for the Bai Tu Long 1 commercial urban service project.

In his personal capacity as general director, defendant Truong promised many people that he would buy project land at preferential rates and diplomatic prices to gain their trust.
Then, defendant Truong made a record of agreement on deposit for real estate investment or a record of capital contribution for real estate investment to buy land for TTP Company's project so that the victims could pay the money.
With this trick, defendant Truong appropriated 40.9 billion VND from 30 people.
Of this amount, Truong used over 1.4 billion to pay interest and late contract penalties to the victims. The remaining amount, Truong spent on personal expenses and online gambling.
