More than a year after being prosecuted for violations at a land plot in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City, former General Director of VEAM Nguyen Thanh Giang continues to be investigated for directing the purchase of 305 sets of car cabin stamping dies.
On the afternoon of October 4, a leader of Hanoi City Police said that they had initiated a criminal case of "Violating regulations on management and use of State assets causing loss and waste" occurring at the Vietnam Engine and Agricultural Machinery Corporation (VEAM).
In addition, the police also prosecuted the accused, issued a residence ban against Mr. Nguyen Thanh Giang (born in 1949), former General Director of VEAM. The police also served the Decision to prosecute the accused, executed the Arrest Warrant for temporary detention, and a Search Warrant for the residence and workplace of Mr. Ho Manh Tuan (born in 1963), Deputy General Director of VEAM.
Both of the above defendants were prosecuted for the crime of "Violating regulations on management and use of State assets, causing loss and waste".
During the investigation, the Economic Police Department of Hanoi City Police determined that in 2005 and 2011, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Giang, then General Director of VEAM, directed Mr. Ho Manh Tuan, then Head of VEAM Technical Department, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VEAM Korea from 2003 to 2009, to prepare reports and proposals to purchase 305 sets of SV 110 car cabin stamping dies that were not in accordance with the provisions of law on investment in purchasing fixed assets of state-owned enterprises.
All of the above assets after being purchased had no use value, causing a waste of more than 26 billion VND of state money.
In particular, defendant Nguyen Thanh Giang was previously prosecuted by the Investigation Police Agency - Ministry of Public Security for the crime of "Violating regulations on management and use of State assets causing loss and waste" in another case, related to violations in the management and use of a land area of nearly 9,000 square meters on Binh Thoi Street, Ward 14, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City, causing especially serious damage to State assets.
However, because defendant Nguyen Thanh Giang is being treated for diabetes and kidney failure, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency applied preventive measures and prohibited him from leaving his place of residence.
