According to Decree 168, motorcyclists who drive in the wrong lane and cause traffic accidents will be fined from 10 to 14 million VND and have 10 points deducted from their driving license.
From January 1, 2025, traffic violation fines will be applied according to Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, with many violations having increased administrative penalties compared to before.
In particular, according to point d, clause 3, Article 7 of Decree 168, drivers of motorbikes, mopeds, and vehicles similar to motorbikes and vehicles similar to mopeds will be fined from 600,000 to 800,000 VND (previously from 400,000 to 600,000 VND) if they commit one of the following violations:
- Driving on the wrong side of the road;
- Driving in the wrong lane or section of the road (lane in the same direction or lane in the opposite direction);
- Drive the vehicle through the fixed median strip between the two lanes.
In addition, if a motorbike driver drives in the wrong lane and causes a traffic accident, he/she will be fined from 10 to 14 million VND (previously from 4 to 5 million VND) and have 10 driving license points deducted according to point d, clause 13, Article 7, Decree 168.
