BRT is a lane for rapid buses, other vehicles are not allowed to use (except priority vehicles as prescribed by law), if you violate, you will be fined and your driver's license will be revoked.
BRT lane is understood as a dedicated lane for rapid bus transport (BRT buses) in Vietnam. According to Appendix D of Vietnam National Technical Regulation QCVN 41:2019/BGTVT Road signs are as follows:
- To signal to road users that there is a lane reserved for each type of vehicle or group of vehicles, place sign R.412 (a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h). The sign is placed above the lane, at the beginning of the road in the direction of traffic.
- Other vehicles are not allowed to enter the lane with this sign (except for vehicles with priority according to regulations).
- For sign R.412e “Bus lane”, if the bus lane marking is in the form of a broken line, other vehicles can enter this lane but must give priority to buses (must give way, move to another lane so as not to affect bus operation); in case the bus lane marking is in the form of a solid line, other vehicles are not allowed to enter the bus lane.
Cars entering BRT lanes will be fined up to 6 million VND
- Sign R.412a "Lane for passenger cars": Lane reserved for passenger cars (including buses). In particular, when signaling a lane reserved for rapid buses, add the phrase "BRT" on sign R.412a.
Accordingly, for BRT lanes, other vehicles are not allowed to enter this lane (except for vehicles with priority according to regulations).
Pursuant to Decree 100/2019/ND-CP regulating administrative sanctions for violations in the field of road and railway traffic and Decree 123/2021/ND-CP, the specific fines are:
For cars entering the BRT lane:
According to the provisions of Point d, Clause 34, Article 2, Decree 123/2021/ND-CP, the fine is 4 - 6 million VND. In addition, according to Point b, Clause 11, Article 5, Decree 100/2019/ND-CP, the driver who commits the violation will also be subject to an additional penalty of having his/her driving license revoked for 1 - 3 months.
In particular, if a car enters the BRT lane and causes an accident, in addition to a fine of 4-6 million VND, the driver will also have his/her driver's license revoked for 2-4 months.
For motorbikes entering the BRT lane:
According to the provisions of Point g, Clause 3, Article 6, Decree 100/2019/ND-CP, the fine is from 400 - 600 thousand VND.
In particular, if a motorbike enters the BRT lane and causes an accident, the driver will be fined from 4 to 5 million VND and have his/her driving license revoked for 2 to 4 months.
For bicycles entering the BRT lane:
According to Point a, Clause 1, Article 8 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP, cyclists entering the BRT lane will be fined 80 - 100 thousand VND.
Thus, the fine for entering the BRT lane, especially for cars, is up to 6 million VND. Drivers need to pay attention to drive in the correct lane and lane, and not drive into the BRT lane.
