A landslide in Cao Bang buried a passenger bus carrying dozens of people. Rescue efforts are facing many difficulties due to landslides on Highway 34 in many sections.

Heavy rains lasting from September 7 to 8 in Cao Bang caused floods on rivers and streams, causing flooding in low-lying riverside areas. In addition, landslides occurred seriously in many areas in the province, causing great damage to people, houses, and infrastructure works (transportation, health care, etc.).

On the morning of September 9, a passenger bus traveling on National Highway 34 from Bao Lam District to Cao Bang City was buried by a large mass of rock and soil from a landslide in Ca Thanh Commune (Nguyen Binh District) when it reached the city of Ca Thanh. At the time of the accident, there were dozens of people on the bus.

Mr. Trinh Sy Tai - Chief of Office of Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee said that it is not yet determined exactly how many people were on the bus because the rescue work is facing many difficulties due to severe landslides on National Highway 34 in many sections.

Authorities are mobilizing police and military to urgently approach and search for the car and the victim.

According to a report from the People's Committee of Cao Bang province, floods and landslides also killed a 4-year-old child and injured 3 others.

Specifically, at 4:00 a.m. on September 9, a landslide buried a house, and a boy named TCC (born in 2020, residing in Lung Noi hamlet, Vu Nong commune, Nguyen Binh district) died on the way to the emergency room.

3 injured people include VTL's nephew (born in 2017, residing in Hung Thinh commune, Bao Lac district, due to a cut on his leg by a sheet of corrugated iron) and 2 unidentified people in Lung Sung hamlet, Yen Lac commune, Nguyen Binh district.

In addition, the whole province recorded 391 damaged houses, of which 12 houses completely collapsed, 11 houses were affected by landslides, 326 were flooded (308 houses in Cao Bang city, 13 houses in Nguyen Binh district, 5 houses in Bao Lac district), 42 houses had their roofs blown off.

93.75 hectares of agricultural area were damaged and affected.
