Early this morning, a 70-meter-high mountain slope collapsed, burying a homestay in Ta Xua commune, Bac Yen district, killing one person and injuring two others.
At around 4am this morning, August 10, a mountain over 100m above provincial road 112 suddenly collapsed from the middle. A huge mass of earth fell down and buried the guest house of a resort. The owner of the resort, from Phu Tho, died on the spot, while her husband and child were injured.
At the scene, the landslide was about 70 meters long along the cliff, blocking the entire Provincial Road 112 and spilling down the slope. The structure, walls, and roof of the homestay were shattered. Another homestay was partially damaged.
Ta Xua commune leaders said the homestay had no guests, only family members were at home. Last night, there was light rain in the area. However, in the previous days, the area often had heavy rain.
The landslide area has many homestays and 2-3 story houses located along the mountainside.
Located at an altitude of more than 2,800 m above sea level, Ta Xua is one of the highest mountain peaks in Vietnam. The climate here is cool all year round, a famous cloud hunting spot, attracting many tourists.
