The area of spring vegetables this year in Hai Duong is larger than last year. Many types of vegetables have been and are being harvested.
According to the provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, as of April 20, Hai Duong had planted about 10,200 hectares of spring vegetables, exceeding the plan by 200 hectares and increasing by 89 hectares compared to the same period in 2024.
More than half of the localities in the province have grown spring vegetables exceeding the plan, while the remaining localities have grown 92 - 98%.
Corn, melons, and various green vegetables are the main crops grown by farmers in the province this season.
Since the beginning of the season, vegetable areas have grown well, with fewer pests and diseases than last year. Some crops such as squash, cucumbers, and onions have been damaged by downy mildew, but the area is insignificant.
Up to now, many types of vegetables such as kohlrabi, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, corn, tomato, eggplant, squash, chili, herbs... have been and are being harvested in abundance. The consumption market is relatively favorable, the selling price has decreased slightly compared to the same period last year, but farmers still have a profit of 3 - 5 million VND/sao, depending on the time.
The spring vegetable planting season this year lasts until the end of April. The agricultural sector recommends that farmers increase field visits to prevent and control silkworms and flea beetles that can cause damage during this period.
In the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, Hai Duong plans to plant 10,000 hectares of vegetables. The province's policy is to encourage farmers to expand the area of vegetables, beans, flowers of all kinds, corn, peanuts and some other plants. Encourage people not to expand the area of kohlrabi and cabbage planted at the end of the winter crop and the beginning of the spring crop to limit the situation of excess supply of melons that have to be cut down.
