The largest potato growing area in Nam Sach district achieves high productivity

In the 2024 winter crop, Thai Tan commune will plant about 24.5 hectares of FL2215 potatoes on alluvial soil along the Thai Binh River, an increase of about 23 hectares compared to the 2023 winter crop. The commune's potato area is mainly grown on alluvial soil along the Thai Binh River in Mac Binh village with 19.5 hectares.

The leader of Mac Binh village said that the 2024 winter potato crop will be a good harvest, with large tubers and beautiful appearance, with an average yield of 1 ton/sao, 100 kg/sao higher than the 2023 winter crop. Enterprises purchase and consume potatoes in the field at a price of 9,000 VND/kg, farmers earn about 5 million VND/sao.

Compared to 2023, the 2024 winter potato crop has fewer pests and diseases and develops evenly due to the addition of alluvium after the historic flood that occurred in September 2024.

This is the second consecutive winter crop that Thai Tan commune farmers have cultivated potatoes on alluvial soil along the river. In the 2023 winter crop, for the first time, this locality coordinated with Duc Minh Seed Trade Development Company Limited (Hai Duong) and Pepsico Vietnam Food Company Limited (Binh Duong) to deploy the "FL2215 potato cultivation model on alluvial soil along the river", with 5 households participating in planting nearly 1 hectare.

Participating in the model, farmers are provided with seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, technical support and product consumption by the enterprise. The first crop was effective, so Thai Tan farmers expanded the planting area in the last winter crop.

FL2215 is a potato variety imported from the global Pepsico Group, recognized in the Southern region since April 2016, in the North since July 2023. This is a heat-resistant variety, which can be planted early in winter conditions in Hai Duong province. FL2215 variety has high yield, averaging 20-35 tons/ha, if cultivated and cared for well, it can reach 45 tons/ha.
