Remittances to Ho Chi Minh City in 2023 are estimated to reach nearly 9 billion USD.

According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong, Deputy Head of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the amount of remittances to Vietnam in the last days of 2023 increased sharply and will continue to increase in the time leading up to the Lunar New Year. Of which, the highest amount of remittances is in Ho Chi Minh City. According to the State Bank of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City branch, the amount of remittances to the city in 2023 is estimated to reach nearly 9 billion USD, an increase of 35% compared to 2022. This is the highest amount of remittances ever.

Over the past 10 years, remittances have become a bright spot in Vietnam. Although affected by the global economy, remittances to Vietnam have decreased in some years following the general trend of other countries, but it still maintains its position in the top 10 countries with the largest remittances in the world and in the top 3 countries receiving the most remittances in the Asia-Pacific region.

Remittances are always considered one of the sources of supply that contributes to ensuring the relationship between foreign currency supply and demand, while effectively supporting monetary policy, exchange rates and the foreign exchange market.
