In a letter to medical staff, the Minister of Health said that Vietnam has spent more than 30 years performing kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas, and corneal transplant techniques and has now mastered advanced techniques, on par with other countries in the region.

According to Minister Dao Hong Lan, currently, the country has 26 organ transplant centers with full equipment, facilities, human resources and advanced techniques. In the past two years, Vietnam has performed more than 1,000 transplants each year, ranking number 1 in Southeast Asia in terms of the number of organ transplants per year.

This success demonstrates the remarkable progress in the level, specialized techniques, and rich experience of the Vietnamese medical sector. At the same time, it demonstrates the high sense of responsibility, dedication, and devotion to patients of medical staff, lighting up the hope of reviving patients with organ failure.

However, the source of donated tissues and organs in Vietnam is mainly from living donors, accounting for 94%. Donations from deceased people are still very limited, not meeting the increasing demand for tissue and organ transplantation. The rate of registration for tissue and organ donation of the general population and especially the rate of tissue and organ donation after brain death in Vietnam is still very low.

Currently, only more than 86,000 people have registered to donate organs and tissues after death, while the waiting list for organ transplants is always at tens of thousands of people and every day dozens of people die due to lack of organs.

The Minister of Health quoted President Ho Chi Minh's saying "Our nation is a nation rich in charity" to emphasize that donating organs to save lives is an extremely noble act, symbolizing the fine tradition of "mutual love" of the Vietnamese people.

“I hope that every doctor, cadre, civil servant, public employee and worker in the health sector will actively learn from the example of the great Uncle Ho, a model of compassion, on his birthday (May 19),” the Minister of Health expressed.

On the occasion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh launching the campaign "Registering to donate tissues and organs to save lives - Giving is forever", the Minister of Health called on all health sector officials and employees to register to donate tissues and organs after death.

Let us join hands to revive the lives that are languishing day by day waiting for organ and tissue transplants. Let us spread the good meaning of registering to donate organs and tissues to everyone in the community.

I believe that every effort, compassion and dedication of each medical staff is an important part in contributing to building Vietnamese medicine and further enhancing the nation's tradition of "mutual love and support", Minister Dao Hong Lan wrote in the letter.
