Voluntary application
Young man Tran Nam Truong in Zone 2, Thanh Binh Ward (Hai Duong City) is currently a third-year student at Hai Duong College of Industry and Commerce. In October 2022, Nam Truong decided to temporarily put his studies on hold and volunteered to join the army. Nam Truong's decision was supported by his family. His joy was doubled when he qualified for military service during the recent city-level recruitment examination. Mr. Tran Nam Trung, Nam Truong's father, shared: "My family was very happy when we learned that my son volunteered to join the army. His studies and career will be a long one. I believe that the military environment will help him mature more."
Young man Truong Van Hai in Ngoai village, Minh Hoa commune (Kinh Mon) is the second child in the family. His older brother is a soldier on active duty. According to regulations, he was temporarily deferred from military service, but he still volunteered to write an application. “The day I sent my brother off to join the army, I hoped that one day I would be able to wear a soldier's uniform. For me, joining the army is not only fulfilling my responsibility and duty as a citizen to the country, but also an environment for learning and training,” Hai shared.
These days, Luu Quang Trung in Nai Dong village, Tam Ky commune (Kim Thanh) is very excited because he knows he is in good health to prepare to join the army in 2023. Although he is still nearly 6 months away from being old enough to join the army, Trung has already written a volunteer application. “After finishing 9th grade, I stayed home. After 3 months of vocational training, I started working for a company in the district. Although I am not old enough to join, I was informed about the Law on Military Service and saw the local announcement about the preliminary examination, so I volunteered to write an application to join the army. I was selected this time and am ready to wait for the day to leave,” Trung said.
Motivation for other youth
In the 2023 military recruitment season, all districts, towns and cities in the province have young people volunteering to join the army, including many young people who are temporarily deferred, exempted, and underage but still enthusiastically participating. Mr. Nguyen Van Thang in Dong Kenh village, Tam Ky commune (Kim Thanh) is a student at the Central College of Transport I but also temporarily put his studies on hold to volunteer to join the army. Mr. Thang said: “Last October, during the weekend when I went home, I heard on the commune's loudspeaker a propaganda about calling young people to join the army. Through that, I learned that in the commune there were 1-2 cases of underage people who were temporarily deferred but still volunteered, so I decided to go to the commune to ask to volunteer. During the district-level health check-up in early November, I was eligible to join the army."
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Commander of the Tam Ky Commune Military Command, said that in the 2023 military recruitment season, the commune has 13 eligible young men ready to join the army, of which 4 young men are on temporary deferment and are not old enough to volunteer. The young men who are willing to volunteer to join the army have contributed to encouraging and motivating many other young men to enthusiastically go on duty.

Thanh Mien District is the locality with the largest number of young people volunteering to join the army (nearly 200 applications). Lieutenant Colonel An Xuan Tue, Commander of the Thanh Mien District Military Command, said that for many years now, every year the locality has had young people volunteering to join the army. This result is due to the fact that the Military Service Councils at all levels have done a good job of propaganda, paying attention, rewarding and praising young volunteers in a timely manner. Localities have coordinated with local businesses to create favorable conditions for receiving soldiers who have completed their military service to work... Therefore, young people have had positive changes in their awareness and actions.
Cam Giang District is also a locality with many young people volunteering to join the army. Since 2018, Cam Giang District Youth Union has launched a movement for young people to volunteer to join the army, encouraging young people to fulfill their responsibilities to the Fatherland. The Youth Unions of communes and towns have proactively grasped the source of young people of the right age, classified them and had appropriate propaganda measures; closely coordinated with associations and organizations to organize educational activities, exchanges, visits and gifts for young people joining the army. The district and communes promptly commended and commended young people who volunteered to join the army. Thanks to that, the number of young people volunteering to join the army in the district has increased every year. In 2019, the whole district had 17 young people volunteering to join the army, and in the 2023 recruitment season, there were over 60 young people volunteering to join the army.
According to incomplete statistics from the Provincial Military Command, as of December 21, the whole province had over 300 young people volunteering to join the army, of which over 60% were temporarily deferred or exempted. Although these young people have different circumstances, they all have in common a strong will and a spirit of readiness to participate in defending the Fatherland. That spirit is the driving force, contributing to encouraging and motivating many other young people to seriously comply with the Law on Military Service.
